ROBERT DELONG Announces September Tour // Single “Happy” Due To Impact This July
Singer, songwriter, producer, programmer and drummer ROBERT DELONG—touted as a “2013 Artist to Watch” by the likes of MTV, Billboard and VIBE—has announced he will embark on a headlining tour in early fall. An in-demand festival act who has already performed this year at Coachella, SXSW, Sasquatch! and Ultra Music Festival, just to name a few, DELONG will kick off a run of his own shows beginning August 31 in Toronto which will take him through several markets in the Northeast including Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis, Syracuse, Washington, D.C., Albany, New York City, Pittsburgh and more. Tickets go on sale today, Wednesday, July 17 at http://robertdelong.com/robert-delong-headlining-tour/.
At these shows, ROBERT DELONG will feature material from his debut album JUST MOVEMENT out now on Glassnote Records. A one-man futuristic dance party with beats as cerebral as Orbital and club-ready as Calvin Harris, DELONG is also a profoundly gifted singer/songwriter who raises questions about identity and spirituality. These two elements join together on JUST MOVEMENT, a dazzling collection of dance beats, pop hooks and thought-provoking queries. The 12-track album features the breakout single“Global Concepts,” which continues to build at radio stations across the country with strong play on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation. (The video for “Global Concepts” can be seen here: http://youtu.be/nnSyu4eZkZ4).
In other news, Glassnote is gearing up for the launch of “Happy” as an official single. The track, which appears on JUST MOVEMENT, is the follow-up to “Global Concepts.” It was the first song from the album that caught the attention of major radio outlets KROQ and 98.7 in his adopted hometown Los Angeles. Look for a video to be made available soon while the track is set to impact radio July 23. Listen to “Happy” at: www.soundcloud.com/robertdelong/happy.
DELONG’s “dynamic stage presence,” as highlighted by Katherine Tulich from the Los Angeles Times (5/31/13), has also caught the attention of many influential promoters landing him performance slots at major festivals worldwide. Prior to the launch of his tour,ROBERT will be traveling down under to appear at Australia’s Splendour In the Grass, with a performance at Lollapalooza to follow., Budweiser Made In America, Treasure Island Music Festival, Voodoo Music + Arts Experience and many more are also on his tour agenda for the remainder of the year. He’ll also take his charismatic live performance overseas where he’ll be performing at such top international festivals as Belgium’s Pukkelpop and the UK’s Reading Festival and Leeds Festival.
ROBERT DELONG’s festival performances have been critically received in the press:
“Robert DeLong, a one-man band using loops and samples, constructed pop songs that he then zapped with the assaultive noises of dubstep.” – Jon Pareles, NEW YORK TIMES (6/10/13)
“Robert DeLong impressed with his live one-man electro-dub-dance music production.” – Magnet Magazine (6/25/13)
“DeLong proved himself as a true one-man band, as he combined indie rock vocal melodies with electronic music elements – utilizing loop pedals and sampling his own voice – to create a sound that had many potential new fans bobbing their heads. At one point, he used a joystick to commandeer a dubstep-influenced bass drop, swerving onstage as if he was maneuvering through towers of synthesizers.” – Sean Fitzgerald, TURNTABLE (6/12/13)
“His overwhelming EDM beats are punctuated by some very personal and affecting vocals…all tied in with his energetic stage presence. With a drum kit, drum pads, video game controllers, laptops, and synthesizers on stage he’s often manically running around trying to make everything work. But it does, surprisingly well in fact, and Delong has built up a collection of really good tracks already.” – Miles Bowe, STEREOGUM.COM (5/26/13)
“This guy was an unexpected ice cream cone of an act in the middle of the afternoon…One of the nicer surprises of this set was DeLong’s vocal looping, mostly because he’s got a great, clear voice (think Ben Gibbard) and that’s only one neato thing in his music making. He did a full-on sitting drum solo during one of his songs, and in another, squeezed his eyes shut while tapping a looping pedal like a sound-only video game controller. He records, loops, brings in outside beats and sometimes hits drum pads to control the timing of his fresh recordings.” – Marie, BRIGHTEST YOUNG THINGS (5/13/13)
“ Robert DeLong gave the growing crowd in the Mojave Tent a glimpse of the future. The cherubic DeLong is proof that all electronic music is not created equally; he doesn’t just play it, he performs it — part multi-instrumentalist, part producer, part gamer. He started his set by looping his tweaked voice, percussion and synth. Then, furiously, he roared through 30 minutes of poppy, dubsteppy, rocky electro, at times banging away on a good old-fashioned drum kit (!), at others playing and manipulating keyboards and at still others singing and joy-sticking those vocals with a Wii controller….DeLong’s set earned nothing but amazed “ohs.” – Kevin Bronson, BUZZBANDS.LA (4/15/13)
“DeLong was onstage, with more equipment than I knew one man could use. This is where DeLong blew my mind. DeLong’s talents go far beyond simply producing music. He sang, he did his own covers of other tunes, and he played his own drums, all by himself in his own unique style. As if this weren’t enough to impress, his novel DJing techniques took it over the edge. Not only did DeLong use a computer joystick to influence his live production, but he had a WiiMote (a Nintendo Wii controller) hooked into his computer so that he could further manipulate his singing by pressing a button or two and shaking his hand. The effect was unreal, indescribable, and awe inducing.” – VIBERIGHT.ORG (4/28/13)
“He was like a one-man band with a lot of soul. He would start with an electronic beat, and then all of the sudden jump on a drum kit and start wailing. You know how when jazz musicians are really feeling it, they might get down and kind of talk to the piano key? He was like that on drums, like whispering sweet nothings to his high-hat. Very genuine, expressive and super talented with rhythm and percussion.” – NORDSTROM MEN’S BLOG (5/31/13)

About Robert DeLong: Raised in the suburbs of Seattle, ROBERT DELONG headed south to Los Angeles with a toolbox of Wii-motes, keyboards and drums to develop a live rock show that CMJ Magazine claims worthy of “an 8-bit warrior, seamlessly creating danceable electro beats with his Wii Remote and Sega Genesis controller on par with the Chemical Brothers.” DELONG began performing his genre-bending songs in 2010. He uses MIDI interfaces, a full drum set, drum pads, keyboards, laptops and game controllers, looping his music live to fuse electronic dance beats with striking melodies and lyrics with emotional heart. DELONG is the perfect artist to bring electronic dance music to Glassnote Records, home of Mumford & Sons, Two Door Cinema Club, Phoenix and more.
