JOSÉ JAMES TO PERFORM ON LENO, ADDS LA & NYC SHOWS, ANNOUNCES EUROPEAN TOUR
The buzz continues to build around genre-bending singer-songwriter José James‘ and his stunning Blue Note debut, No Beginning No End, which was released last month to wide critical acclaim. After delivering stand-out performances on both the CBS Late Show With David Letterman and TBS Conan, José is set to appear on the NBC Tonight Show With Jay Leno on March 13. Fans in New York City will also get the chance to Meet The Musician tonight when José makes an in-store appearance at the Apple Store Soho at 7:00pm for an intimate performance and conversation about his new album.
José kicked off his worldwide tour with a sold-out show at the Highline Ballroom in NYC last month, and has just announced he will return to NYC for a show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on March 27. Due to popular demand José has also added a 2nd show in Los Angeles at the Del Monte Speakeasy on March 13. In addition to international dates this month in Asia and Australia, José has also just announced an extensive European tour throughout April and May. See below for a full list of tour dates.
José has been earning rave live reviews from coast-to-coast including the Boston Globe (“James’s laidback groove paired with his bandmates’ jazz virtuosity is what made the sold-out show so compelling”) and Los Angeles Times who called José’s Berkley Street Session for KCRW in December “one of L.A.’s best concerts of the year.” The entire KCRW session, which aired on Morning Becomes Eclectic, can be watched HERE. José has been the subject of Sunday features in both The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, as well as a profile on NPR All Things Considered.

The Minneapolis-born, Brooklyn-based James is a musical omnivore whose career path has steadfastly followed its own rhyme and reason. He is an artist that resists being pigeonholed, equally at ease on stage with a jazz legend like McCoy Tyner as he is in the studio with electronica pioneer Flying Lotus. Interview Magazine recently named José one of their 13 Faces of 2013, declaring him “The New Jazz Man” and praising his ability to reconnect hip hop with jazz.
No Beginning No End is a seamless musical experience that moves between different styles with remarkable fluidity, bound together by James’ transcendent voice. Conceived, recorded and produced independently, the album is James’ most personal statement yet and boasts collaborators including noted producer/bassist Pino Palladino; pianist/composer Robert Glasper; R&B singer/songwriter/guitarist Emily King; international French-Moroccan singing star Hindi Zahra; and the Thelonious Monk Competition winner pianist Kris Bowers.
“No Beginning No End sums up how I feel about music right now,” says James. “I don’t want to be confined to any particular style. I decided I didn’t want to be considered a jazz singer anymore and that was really freeing. Once I realized that jazz singing is just something that I do and it’s just a label, it freed me as an artist to just write without any boundaries.”
