When Steve (a guy who seems to know what  I like, rock or otherwise) asked if I was interested in checking out a Michigan band he was working with, my initial thought was, “Hell yes, nothing like some good Detroit rock.”  These guys aren’t from Detroit, but the spirit and ability are there.  This one has been in my car after the second spin and I have yet to take it out.

“Nobody’s Perfect” comes out of the gate and demonstrates these guys are for real.  The guitar work, along with the pounding rhythm section is totally in sync with the vocals.  This one is a keeper.  “Welcome To My Head” kicks off with a cool riff, tons of drumming, and a chugging melody line.  The vocals are catchy and clear.  I found myself humming along first listen through.  “On My Knees” follows and adds to the bands repertoire.  This ballad, with its eerie backdrop and love-struck lyrics, is a great track and really makes you think about that one relationship you fought tooth and nail for.  “Fire Down Below,” by Bob Seger, is a classic that you just don’t mess with… much less if you are a Michigan band.  You don’t step on local legends.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the original, but on this song, Wayland added all the balls Seger left on the floor in the studio.  They even give props toDetroitin the song, where the original failed to do so.  Do not stop listening to this EP until you check out this tune.

Wayland – remember the name… you will hear it again.  I have the feeling you will hear it a lot.  These youngsters know how to rock without overdoing it.  What a refreshing thing to find in this day and age, when so many releases seem over produced.
