Pitchfork Premieres New EMPTY FLOWERS Song “Ice on Wings”
East Coast buzz band EMPTY FLOWERS will release its debut album SIX on September 25 via Translation Loss Records. The quartet features current and former members of Cable, Zodiak and Balboa and is being praised for its multifaceted sound that combines both melodic and noise rock elements with the haunting vocals of amply bearded frontman Christian McKenna. The record was recorded by Keith Souza and Seth Manchester at Rhode Island’s Machines with Magnets multimedia arts facility (Battles, Six Finger Satellite, Lightning Bolt) and boasts cover art from visual designer Jason Hellmann (Jesu, Pelican). Today, Pitchforkpremieres the new EMPTY FLOWERS song “Ice on Wings“, saying the band “stitches together Polvo guitars, a push/pull that brings to mind Guy Picciotto throwing himself around a stage, and a mid-song dynamic lift that goes well with the collection’s icy cover art.” Check out “Ice on Wings” alongside a remixed version of the track by onetime Cable and Isis member Jeff Caxide today at this location.
In advance of the late September release of SIX, EMPTY FLOWERS has dropped a special single via Atomic Action! Records teasing the song “Call a Priest” and backed by the Caxide remix of “Ice on Wings“. Strictly limited to 300 copies and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, OLD), the 7″ is available for purchase now at this location. The full length release is also available for pre-order HERE.
