The 2025 release of Paul Dempsey’s ‘Shotgun Karaoke Vol. II’ (EMI) album saw the Something For Kate frontman revel in the stripped-back and spontaneous approach that brought the party vibes to the subsequent capital city tour. So much so, that he’s doing it again and bringing those sing-along covers to stages across regional Australia on the Shotgun Karaoke Vol. II Regional Tour from May to August.
Prepare for the best karaoke night you’ve ever been to as the tour begins in Frankston on May 1, before heading to regional towns in Victoria. Tasmania, Queensland, Western Australia, the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales, finishing in Coffs Harbour on August 1.
Dempsey said, “I had a blast on the Shotgun Karaoke tour last year, but it wasn’t long enough! I can’t wait to get out for the extended version and play all over the country. The atmosphere at these shows has been ridiculously fun!”
Dempsey has built a career on making his emotionally driven alternative rock feel stadium-sized, and on this tour he will do exactly that. Playing a broad selection of covers beyond what’s included on either of the eclectic Volumes I and II, Dempsey will draw on scores of covers that span decades and genres.
Expect the setlist to evolve as the night rolls on with live favourites often including Don Henley’s nostalgic “Boys Of Summer” alongside Tanita Tikaram’s “Twist In My Sobriety”, Grant Lee Buffalo’s Mockingbirds“”, Jeff Buckley’s “The Last Goodbye”, David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” and Aussie band Max Q’s 1989 hit “Way of the World”.
Dempsey will be joined on tour by Naarm-based, Boorloo-raised singer-songwriter Kaitlin Keegan as special guest.
Keegan writes songs made up of small details and big feelings. Her forthcoming single, “20 Something”, is the latest addition to her growing back catalogue of emotionally aware indie-folk, showcasing her effortlessly melodic vocals and preternatural ability to capture the universal in the everyday.
Like the original, the ‘Shotgun Karaoke Vol. II’ album arrived during a transitional period – this time between the Fanning Dempsey National Park project and work on a new Something For Kate album.
