Every year, there is a little mystique around the final show I cover.  There is always a little excitement looking forward to the calendar flip and the shows on the horizon as well as closing out another great year of live shows, photos, and music.  This year was no different as I found myself in the audience when Charly Lowry brought her Carolina Holiday show to the local Center for the Arts.  This was a bit of a rescheduled show as Lowry’s previously scheduled show this past January was cancelled due to severe winter weather that struck the area.  Karma dictated the performer that would have been my first show of 2025 (and in the area) would be my last of the year.  Charly took the stage and from the first note to the last, her smile and infectious attitude kept the show light and allowed everyone to leave everything at the door and enjoy an evening of music.  Lowry made reference to loving intimate shows and the audience that made their way to the Cain Center reciprocated and enjoyed her show.  After starting off with a couple holiday songs, keeping with the theme of the show, Charly began the story of a prior holiday party and how she got caught up.  With a storyteller approach, she did something I didn’t think was possible… Lowry swirled holiday music, originals, and covers to enhance the story and pepper each of us with music that was embraceable.  Each track was handled with precision by a singer / guitarist / songwriter with an amazing voice and obvious love for what she does.  I will say, my favorite of her originals, “Stay,” was performed early in the show.  It also allowed her to plug not only her story, her songwriting, but also her merch that was available and would make great gifts.  Don’t miss out when she hits a festival, performing arts center, or any other performance near you.  I know I will find my way into the audience whenever I have the opportunity.
