This past Wednesday everyone in Nashville was in for a very special treat especially if they were fans of electro. The pioneers of the electronica genre made a stop through town to indulge everyone with an absolute unit of an audio visual performance spanning 50 years of music released by them. The Pinnacle was nearly at capacity which is a mighty feat to meet. There were people of all ages in attendance. Older fans obviously from the beginning down to newer ones that probably had only just discovered them, to those random few that purchased a ticket on a whim and became a fan at the show. At exactly 8pm on the dot they took the stage to their 4 pedestals in outfits and accessories lit by led lights. It only took a few seconds and they started into “Numbers / Computer World / Computer World 2” named off the 1981 album of the same name. The visuals went from oscilloscope to random 3D images on the screen behind them. Once they jumped into the “Spacelab” which visually included a 3D animation of a spaceship flying through Nashville and landing at The Pinnacle. Everyone was already totally excited and immersed in the visually and sonically impressive performance. They then played several more tracks including an unreleased number called “Tango” that’s only been played live according to setlist.fm 46 times since 2002. So it was a rare and special treat for the audience.
This show had pretty much anything you would ever want to hear from the progenitor of modern electronic dance music and electronica. “Autobahn,” the “Tour de France” medley, and “Trans Europe Express” medleys were my personal favorites from the entire show. I’ve been a fan for a long time so was really excited to get to hear and see them performed live finally after all these years. And others were too by the time “Autobahn” started although there were mostly everyone sitting in seats just visually being washed over by the visuals and sonic waves of brilliance… a few pockets of younger people more new to the genre up and dancing sporadically throughout the room and over on the sides. The overall performance was 18 tracks with pretty much something for every level of fan represented from 50 years of since the release of the seminal release of the album Autobahn which this tour was celebrating. If ever there was a time to go check out a band even if you ever remotely had interest or were possibly just having a few extra dollars in hand and just got a ticket. You will not be disappointed with this one. Such an amazing time.
