Closing out their tour to support the Call The Devil release, the gang in Mushroomhead knows a road trip isn’t complete without notching another show at The Machine Shop in Flint, MI. This show, the 45th appearance at The Shop, was sold out and the anticipation of the crowd, staff, and band alike was building from the moment the doors opened… hell, before that when the band showed up for the day and the ticketholders started gathering waiting for the doors to open. The venue filled quickly and before you knew it the first band was filling the venue with music, and we were all enjoying the evening while waiting for the headliners. Openers Mind Incision filled their allotted stage time with some cool songs and energy that helped pump the crowd as the evening moved and minutes clicked away. After their set and a quick stage flip, There Is No Us played their set. The crowd readied themselves for the show and Mushroomhead. Like clockwork, the collective hit the stage and proceeded to kick off the evening with “12 Hundred” and the energy only got better from there. While band members come and go, the vibe and energy have stayed the same year after year. Spreading their set across their catalog, the band featured two tracks from their latest release – “Fall In Line” which brought singer Jackie LaPonza to the stage joining Steve Rauckhorst and Scott Beck who kicked the showoff with mics in their hands, and “Prepackaged.” With nothing and everything to prove at the same time here in Flint, MI, the group played their hearts out and asses off on other tracks like “A Requiem for Tomorrow,” “Our Apologies,” and “Sun Doesn’t Rise.” Co-founder, drummer, and sole consistent member Steve “Skinny” Felton kept the show and sound anchored perfectly from behind his kit while the other percussionists entertained the packed venue from the front of the stage. Other rockers in the set like “The Heresy” and “Seen It All” featured cool vocals and great guitar work from long time (and returning) guitarist Dave “Gravy” Felton. Overall, this one another killer Mushroomhead show that stands up against other shows at The Machine Shop and other venues I have seen the group play. While they are off the road after a hometown show in Cleveland, don’t fret — they will be back… they always are.
