I have seen Jinjer on stages in three different states and the latest show in Charlotte, NC was the best of the trio in my opinion.  With new album Duél to support and introduce the fans to, they hit the road and found themselves at The Fillmore in CLT on a Wednesday night.  To help get the crowd warmed up and ready for some killer metal, they enlisted Entheos and Crystal Lake to join them and get the venues rocking and rolling before the headline set.  Both bands were new to me sonically.  Tonight’s opener Entheos came out and killed it from the minute they hit the stage.  Also peppering their set with a little new material from their release coming later this year, the band did what they were brought onboard to do and then some.  Their set was tight and full of songs that wove their time on stage together perfectly.  The crowd was more pumped with each song they threw our way.  I found myself headbanging and getting more into their set with each passing moment, even grabbing some of their merch for myself before departing at the end of the evening.  Next up was Crystal Lake and while they had fans in the crowd and gained some along the way, they weren’t necessarily my cup of tea musically.  There was no denying their energy and effort, as the fans got into them immediately.  The guys on stage were animated and fed off the crowd’s energy and feedback, energizing them from song to song.

Finally, the time had come that I was waiting for, along with a packed house of fans.  Jinjer hit the stage and we were off and running, musically speaking.  The band took their respective places on stage – Roman Ibramkhalilov on guitars, Eugene Abdukhanov on bass, and Vladislav Ulasevich on drums – while the intro played on and the opening song of the set ramped up.  Soon singer Tatiana Shmayluk hit the ground running, and we were launched into a full blown metalcore show with the Ukrainian quartet delivering music that ebbed and flowed with the set and mood.  There was pounding heavy metal, moments of solace and mood, and even moments for the band to showcase their talents, both individually and collectively.  With the bands recent release getting the majority of the evening, it was awesome to hear the killer new tracks played as they were meant to be heard – loud, in your face, and with power.  After the title track opened the set, the next two songs provided a killer tandem following the opening with two more new tracks “Green Serpent” and “Fast Draw” helping to kick the evening into high gear.  The band peeled back layers and hit us with a one-two punch of “Vortex” and “Disclosure!” from their Wallflowers release before launching into the new track “Tantrum.”  The remainder of the evening saw the band twisting music in and out of the set from previous releases and swirling them into the mix with new material.  The bands Micro and Macro releases provided more of the heart of the set with “Teacher, Teacher!,” “Judgement (& Punishment)” and “Perennial” shining in the second half of the set.  After a slight pause during “Hedonist” due to an injury in the crowd, the rest of the set was round out with two more new tracks “Someone’s Daughter” and “Rogue” tearing through the venues sound system.  The closing tracks were pulled from the band’s major debut King Of Everything with “Pisces” and “Sit Stay Roll Over” bringing the evening to a close.  What a killer night of metal from one of the best doing it currently.  I cannot wait to see Jinjer do it again on a stage near me…
