A Dirty Dozen with TIMMY BROWN from DOSE OF ADOLESCENCE – October 2024

| 15 October 2024 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “Southern California stalwarts Dose of Adolescence have returned! They just dropped the new song “Get Back Up,” which appears on the forthcoming album Zircon Ave., out via XOVR RECORDS on November 15. It’s the first new music from the band in over a decade. Dose of Adolescence are known for their blend of catchy pop stylings, hip-hop cadences, and grungey, punk rock distortion and “Get Back Up” will not disappoint fans of the band’s signature sound. It’s a high energy rager about taking the haymakers life throws at you and not giving up! It’s powered by thunderous beats and a robust singalong. You’ll be adding this track to your favorite gym playlist in no time.” We get lead guitarist Timmy to discuss new music, influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

On our latest release “Lean Back” there are references to old songs and album titles as well.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

We’ve both always loved music, but for me personally, once I heard the Blink-182’s record Dude Ranch, I wanted to be in a band.

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

No specific song or album, we have mainly always tried to write about real-life personal experiences. I don’t know if I could or would say any specific song, but Blink was a huge influence on me. Also bands like Strung Out.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

I would love to have a song produced by Mark Hoppus.

5. What is your favorite activity when out of the studio and/or not on tour?  What do you like to do to unwind?

I love to be outside and spend time with family and loved ones.

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

It is a mix of hip-hop, rock, & punk rock…comparisons don’t bother us. It’s humbling to be compared to larger artists.

7. When your band is hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

My brother and I both get down in the kitchen. We both have spent many years slinging drinks in the service industry so it’s a coin toss.

8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?

When Brian Head Welch signed our band to his label XOVR Records.

9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?

Sharing hope with people is the absolute best part of being a musician.

10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?

I’ve always appreciated it when an interviewer takes time to research the band’s history. I haven’t come across a question yet that I’m tired of answering.

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?

We would love to play the 2018 Warped Tour over and over again.

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Blink-182 Dude Ranch was a major influence on us starting this band.
