MUSIC REVIEW: RAUE – KARMA!! [EP]

A two-track EP from Raue drops later this week.  According to a recent press release: “Up-and-coming punk duo Raue is excited to announce their forthcoming EP KARMA!!, set to be released on February 2nd. Featuring two brand new tracks, KARMA!! pulls inspiration from the 90’s grunge scene. Raue is a two-piece band reviving the 90’s alternative rock grunge sound with the performance and high energy of a punk band. Out of Santa Cruz, California, the band includes Paige Kalenian (18) and Jax Huckle (17). Paige writes and plays everything melodic for the songs, and Jax fills in with drums, resulting in a sound equivalent to a 5-piece band.”  Title track “Karma” kicks off and we are instantly taken on a punk rock ride with the heavy handed drumming that merges perfectly with the guitars, vocals, and bass.  The song is full of piss and vinegar without getting in your face.  The overall vibe is a cool garage rock texture swirled with punk dynamic.  Follow-up track “Ruby Glow” is a perfect compliment to the title track with a more fuzzed garage feel that provides a cool runway for the musical flight for which the guitars and drums provide the wings.  The breakdown is fun and gives you a minute to chill before the drums kick back in and bring us full circle before the final pass through of the chorus.  Be sure to hang out through the bridge with the flares of guitar that are sprinkled all over the outro of the track.
