On a Sunday evening, Cypress Hill brought their show to a packed Hard Rock Event Center at Tampa’s Seminole Hard Rock. With the crowd trickling into the venue for the scheduled 8p start time, a local DJ was ‘sound checking’ and warming the crowd up.  After about 30 minutes, his setup was removed and Cypress Hill’s DJ Lord climbed behind his turntable and took the liberty to further crank the venue up as we all waited for the headliners to do what they do best… well, maybe second best.  With a blend of rock, rap, hip-hop, and the like we were all primed, ready, and welcomed Cypress Hill to the stage as they ripped into their self-proclaimed Weed Medley of “I Wanna Get High,” “Dr. Greenthumb, ” and “Hits From The Bong.”  There were constant cheers from the crowd as they sang along and puffed along with frontman B-Real. As the trio on stage worked through the medley – B-Real, percussionist Eric Bobo, and DJ Lord – and cranked up the already pumped-up crowd, Sen Dog strolled out on stage to join the crew for “When The Shit Goes Down.” The setlist was packed with fan favorites and songs you could tell the group enjoyed performing.  The energy was up from the moment they hit the stage, but that wasn’t the reason for all the heavy inhaling and exhaling.  The band and the crowd enjoyed the evening and all it brought with it as the show progressed with various tracks from their catalog between 1991’s self-titled disc and 2004’s Till Death Do Us Part and a couple covers along the way.  The loyal fans in attendance new every word to every track and matched B-Real and Sen Dog lyric for lyric throughout the evening.  The show closed with arguably their biggest track “Insane In The Brain” paired up with a cover of House of Pain’s “Jump Around.”  And like that, we were all off to our separate corners of existence and awaited the show to fade in our mind for the evening and prepare for Monday.
