What happens when you take a handful of blues and shake it together with another handful of country and toss in some swagger and attitude? You get a show from Wynonna and The Big Noise. The packed show at Clearwater, FL’s Bilheimer Capitol Theatre started with an opening set from The Big Noise who are celebrating putting an album together and played some of those tracks for us over their short 30-minute set. The foursome warmed the crowd, but I don’t think anyone was ready for the show we were about to get. Dressed in black and fringe with an acoustic in hand, Wynonna took her place center stage and came out swinging with a killer rendition of “Are You Ready for The Country?” that set the pace and bar for the evening… and it only got better from there. One of my favorites from her catalog made an early appearance in the set when she broke into “Rock Bottom” and I wasn’t the only one in the venue that got into the mood. After the nearly two years we have had with live music being a distant memory at times, truer words were never vocalized than “Things are tough all over, but I’ve got good news; when you get down to nothing, you’ve got nothing to lose.” This song alone was worth the price of admission between the musical delivery, her acoustic punch added to the sound, and those pipes – I cannot talk enough about how strong her voice was as her sound flooded each void within the theatre. Her smile and determination to please each audience took over and she seamlessly delivered song after song with precision and kept us all engaged. There were some hits, some fan favorites, and some deeper tracks that kept everyone engaged. The Big Noise kept the musical landscape moving and provided a great undercurrent for the musical tidal wave Wynonna’s vocals delivered. She delivered to total package from songs we all wanted to hear whether we knew it or not to her poise and presentation on stage, smiling from behind the mic and under that flame red mane that was perfectly bespeckled with glitter adding to the visual of the show. With not many dates on the calendar yet, I for one was happy to have seen this show so early in the year. There was a lot to love about this show, but my boxes were checked early when she played the aforementioned “Rock Bottom” and followed that up with a beautiful song “Cry Myself To Sleep.” She took us across an emotional ride from the onset and I didn’t see anyone leave the show disappointed. Be sure to check the link below and grab tickets if you are lucky enough to have a show pop up near you.
