Umphrey’s McGee made their 48th appearance in Indy, the first being 22 years ago. Having roots in Indiana, the band is a local favorite. It was another perfect summer night at the beautifully renovated TCU Amphitheater. The band had just come off a 2-week hiatus from Covid within Umphrey’s team. Tonight’s performance was broadcast as a free live stream on YouTube. A capacity crowd welcomed them back after opening act Cory Wong kicked things off. Brendan Bayliss informed us it was going to be percussionist Andy Farag’s birthday party tonight. They started with “The Silent Type” as the crowd sang in unison. Bayliss complimented the fans and said just keep that up the whole night. Their signature multi-colored light show created a psychedelic mood as the guys jammed. Guitarists Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss were impeccable as they flat out shred. Drummer Kris Myers and percussionist Andy Farag provided a solid foundation on which the music built. Ryan Stasik’s melodic bass complimented the guitar riffs. Joel Cummins was on keyboards with a diverse palate of sounds. Together the band was in perfect harmony, creating a rich mix of jazz, blues and metal.  They played two sets, totaling nearly three hours. Everyone left satisfied after another classic performance by Umphrey’s McGee.

Setlist: The Silent Type – Attachments – Day Nurse – Higgins – Prowler – 2nd Self – (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction – Flamethrower – The Floor – The Triple Wide – Puppet String – Go to Hell – August – Plunger – In The Kitchen – Regulate
