MIDNIGHT OIL TO HEADLINE OPENING NIGHT – FRI 1st OCT
PAUL KELLY TO HEADLINE SAT 2ND OCT
TASH SULTANA & JIMMY BARNES RETURN AS SATURDAY & SUNDAY HEADLINERS
Festival Director, Peter Noble OAM announced: “Who would have thought after the cancellation of Bluesfest last Easter by a Public Health Order, less than 24 hours before our gates were due to open, due to one local case of transmission, that sent shockwaves through our industry, and traumatised everyone who had been working on presenting Bluesfest at Easter, that six weeks later we would be announcing our re-scheduled festival, and a week later, today our artists. This October, Bluesfest will be the first major festival to return, since COVID-19 struck, with a multi-day, multi-stage, camping event and almost all the artists due to play at Easter will return to play.
“PLUS, I am thrilled to announce that MIDNIGHT OIL have agreed to join our All-Aussie lineup and headline our opening night – FRI 1st OCT 2021 and that PAUL KELLY will co-headline SAT 2nd OCT 2021, alongside TASH SULTANA. This is so special for me to announce – a moment I have been waiting years to happen. MIDNIGHT OIL headlined Bluesfest in 2002, just before their extended hiatus. It has always been my ambition to once again present the ‘holy grail of Australian artists’ at Bluesfest and have approached them every year, redoubling my efforts since their reformation in 2017. And now, to have MIDNIGHT OIL headline our opening night and launch their new album – it’s a dream come true.”

BILL BAILEY AUSTRALIAN TOUR 2021
Following a thumbs-up from immigration, the UK’s best loved comedian brings his brand new live show to Australia.
How did we get here? How do we find our way through this? And exactly who are we again? In Bill’s new show, En Route To Normal, Bill ponders these and other questions that this moment in history has thrown up and tries to see a way through the strange unreality of our new world. With Bill naming the show before we’d even heard of Covid-19, En Route To Normal has become not just a funny, heart-warming mix of stories, music and history, but a personal mission to find our way through these strange times!
Tracing lines through chaotic moments in history, Bill seeks out parallels where human resilience and our ability to endure has got us through times of strife. Through music, songs, and memories, Bill considers our changing priorities, the wonder of dogs, how little things can keep you on track, and rhapsodises on his new-found love of skydiving. He recounts his own experiences of dealing with isolation, ruminating the ‘sounds of lockdown’ which led to a greater appreciation of birdsong and perhaps led to the creation of music itself, and how our reliance on technology has inspired Bill himself to create dance remixes of video-calling ringtones.
With his trademark blend of satire and surrealism, stories and dismantled jokes, crowd sing-alongs, weird instruments and musical showstoppers, don’t miss this legendary comedian, musician and actor back on stage!

HOODOO GURUS 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR WITH VERY SPECIAL GUESTS THE DANDY WARHOLS – AUSTRALIA DECEMBER 2021
Hoodoo Gurus will return to Australian stages in December to celebrate their 40th anniversary, with old mates The Dandy Warhols along for the ride.
“We are thrilled to be going around Australia to play for our fans again. Even better, we are honoured to be accompanied by our admirable friends, The Dandy Warhols from the US. Between the two of us, there are gonna be plenty of opportunities for crowd singalongs, and after the turmoil of the last year and a half, that’s gonna be incredibly therapeutic for everyone. You can be certain that both of our bands will be fired up and rarin’ to go.”
Since their formation in 1981, Hoodoo Gurus’ boast 9 x ARIA Top 20 albums, 9 x ARIA Top 40 singles and a swag of multi-platinum albums – they’re mainstays on the live scene, and perpetually influential to a new generation of artists.
2021 is of particular significance for the Hoodoo Gurus, marking an impressive 40 years recording and touring. December of this year will mark the release of the band’s first album in over a decade. It is Hoodoo Gurus evocative and relatable lyricism, peerless song writing – with a hint of punk attitude – placed in a distinctively Australian context that has provided a careful balance of critical success and enduring mainstream appeal for 40 years.

John Paul Young – JPY 50 Years Young – The Anniversary Tour
The 1970’s Australian music scene could have been a whole lot different if it hadn’t been for a “sliding door” moment in the Young family’s emigration out of Scotland. John’s parents were first offered Canada, but his Mum said an emphatic, NO! After Scotland, I’m not going anywhere cold.
This decision set in motion a career for John Paul Young that now spans 50 years and it’s being celebrated in the JPY 50 Years Young – The Anniversary Tour.
Just imagine if Simon Napier Bell hadn’t been able to invite John to sing on Pasadena, which later linked him with Harry Vanda & George Young to record Love is in the Air, Yesterday’s Hero, I Hate the Music and a myriad of other hits. Australian music owes a lot to John’s Mum and her insistence for a life in warmer climes.
JPY 50 Years Young – The Anniversary Tour, will take you on that journey in songs and stories from Glasgow, Scotland to the shores of Australia and back around the world again, as John performs the songs that brought him national and international stardom.
From John’s first release with Pasadena, in 1972, he then went on to become the un-official co-presenter alongside Molly Meldrum on ABC TV’s Countdown and to the present day he has been a constant presence on the live music scene, in theatre with roles in the original Jesus Christ Superstar, Shout – The Johnny O’Keefe Story, Leader of the Pack – The Ellie Greenwich Story and most recently, Grease, The Musical. A stint in radio at NEWFM Newcastle, saw him top the rating in Breakfast, Mornings and Afternoon timeslots. And, he’s still the reigning King of Pop, since he was the last to receive the crown in 1978.
The Allstar Band features Warren “Pig” Morgan, a founding member of The Allstar Band, who cut his teeth in the original Aztecs and who has been with John since the beginning and has been joined over the years by Greg Plimmer (Drums), Michael “China” Walker (Keyboards & Guitar), Paul Kirtley (percussion), Donnie Whitworth (Bass) and rejoining the band after 34 years and an ongoing successful solo career is, Floyd Vincent (aka Greg Patterson) on guitar.

CUSTARD respects the form of 2021 tour
East coast band Custard are preparing to embark on a staggering run of shows to promote their, now rather stale, 2020 album “Respect All Lifeforms”.
CUSTARD respects the tour… “The ambition is ambitious… there is no doubt about that.”
“Sure, I admit we have pretty much missed the boat on this one and it feels like we are pushing our old shit up a rather steep incline” said lead singer Dave McCormack, “but we hope there are enough old bastards out there who will be willing to spend their hard earned cash to see us play a bunch of songs that are about 30 years old”.
“We have been infuriated by the lack of attention given by the mainstream media to our extended hiatus” reported lead guitarist and band accountant Matt Strong. The band intend to purchase a string of bus shelter advertising space. In an heated telephone exchange, bassist Paul Medew said “We believe that is the future for us. Social media isn’t really our thing. Our groundswell support comes from public transport clients. We know that for a fact”. At the last AGM, Custard shareholders expressed their disappointment with Big Tech’s coverage of the band’s sabbatical and unanimously decided spend up big on bus shelter advertising and possibly a letter box drop.
Taking big steps requires genuine commitment and if the direct intention is to future proof the musical environment these specialists spend their lives immersed in then we must embrace this moment and reshape all forms into a highly impeccable amalgamation. Respect is earned off the back of collective wellbeing. Custard will take whatever they can and bring you to this new level. We thank you for your custom.
Twenty twenties RESPECT ALL LIFEFORMS had its genesis in Perth, where Custard was booked to play a festival in March 2019. Not due on stage until the evening, Glenn booked the band into Fremantle’s Poons Head Studios. By day’s end, they had eight songs, six of which ended up on the record. It was a magical session, which included an unforgettable encounter with an enigmatic character named Cowboy John, who wandered into the studio. He provided the album title and ended up on the cover. David, Glenn, Paul and Matthew have been called many things during their storied career – indie-pop weirdos, the kings of kitsch, Australia’s pop jesters, and “as a band, they are a little like a mullet in reverse: party up the front, all business at the back”. But eighth album Respect All Lifeforms shows they’re just a damn fine pop band. As Glenn declares, “I like to dance around to almost any sound.”

Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox celebrates The Grand Reopening with a worldwide tour
The pop-jazz phenomenon makes its long-awaited return to live performance with a celebration of the new Roaring 20s travelling across the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
Early last year, pop-jazz phenomenon, Postmodern Jukebox, set out to celebrate a new-millennium Roaring 20s, promising audiences across Australia and the rest of the world “the most sensational ’20s party this side of The Great Gatsby.”
Well, we all know what happened next. Just seven dates into the Welcome to the Twenties 2.0 global tour, PMJ creator Scott Bradlee pulled the tour off the road and made the decision to postpone the remaining dates, many of them sold out, as a global pandemic took its toll, silencing live music for more than a year.
Now, the wait is finally over, and Postmodern Jukebox — the musical collective known for putting “pop music in a time machine” — is set to make the ’20s roar again! The Grand Reopening Tour will see PMJ thrill audiences once more with their unique renditions of modern music’s biggest hits in the classic styles of bygone eras.
For a band so deeply rooted in Jazz Age aesthetics — though their time warps have touched on virtually every major trend in popular music, from doo-wop to Motown to hair metal — the coming of another twenties was obviously a symbolic milestone. Ironically, the original Roaring 20s was itself ushered in by a worldwide flu pandemic.
“It’s crazy how history repeats itself,” Bradlee says, “and it’s striking that people back then reported the same feelings — everybody was beyond tired of being cooped up by themselves after weathering a long pandemic. They just wanted to get out there and dance and party and see each other again. Music has served such a valuable function of inspiring us and reminding us of our shared humanity throughout history, and there’s simply no substitute for gathering together to experience such a powerful force live.”
