GRAHAM GREENE RELEASES NEW EPIC VIDEO FOR SYMPHONICA INSTRUMENTAL
By Shane Pinnegar

Western Australian guitarist Graham Greene has released a succession of epic albums and EPs in recent years, mostly comprised of instrumental works.

In a studio clearout not long ago he suffered the worst fate possible – a hard drive featuring many works in progress crashed and died, without a backup. Rather than allowing despondency to consume him, Greene started again – this time remembering to back up his work regularly.

The results have been spectacular. Not only was 2019’s Ripple In Time so good that we declared “Greene can play a heavy riff, and a lightning-fast solo. But it’s more important that he has the incredibly rare gift to compose mini symphonies, songs which have gravitas despite having no lyrics. Works of incomparable, fragile and raw beauty that can elicite a tear from the eye of the listener. I can count on the fingers of one hand the living guitarists who have such mastery over the magic of music.”

After the hard drive crash he briefly considered giving up. Then he began to compose again – for possibly the first time, without any album or EP in mind. He just wrote. And wrote. And wrote.

Eventually, Greene’s “flurry of composition and recording” solidified into a definite direction.

“I had been working and developing in a cohesive direction,” he says, “and it was time to do something with it. While I was still writing and recording, I now knew what it was all for. I would release this opus on two albums, both standing alone while being part of a larger, more complex and complete whole.”

This epic video, for Danube Blues (view below), is the first offering from what will be Symphonica Pt.1, a sophisticated and delicate collision of hard rock guitar, classical influences, and symphonic technique.
