END OF FASHION RETURN WITH LIVE SHOWS FEATURING FIRST NEW MATERIAL IN SEVEN YEARS

NEW LP OUT EARLY 2020, FIRST SINGLE SLATED FOR SEPTEMBER 2019

Celebrated Perth band End Of Fashion will return next month, with their first live shows featuring new material since 2012. The band will perform two very special, intimate shows at Fremantle live music venue The Aardvark on Friday, 26 July and Saturday, 27 July.

The July shows mark the onset of a new phase for End Of Fashion; with a new line-up, new material and an album slated for release early 2020. The first single is expected to drop this September.

The as-yet untitled album follows on from 2004’s Rough Diamonds and Too Careful EPs, 2006’s self-titled debut album, 2008’s Book Of Lies and 2012’s Holiday Trip Of A Lifetime.

End Of Fashion frontman, songwriter and founding member, Justin Burford, recently spent time in Los Angeles writing for the new album.

“The new stuff came from me writing demos in my home studio over the past few years. I went in lots of different directions, lots of experimenting with different genres. Not everything I was doing suited the End Of Fashion sound. Actually, that wasn’t even on my radar. After a while though, some songs started peering through that felt in line with Fash. I used the band to bang them into shape,” Burford says.

“Then last year I went to LA and stayed with muso friends and spent some time writing with them and other people like Miro Mackie. It helped me focus on exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to bring it right back to feeling like a sequel to our first album.”

Fans attending the July shows will get a first look at the new material – including the tracks Only Dancing, If This Is Love and The Traveller – alongside fan favourites like Rough Diamonds (which came in at #86 in triple j’s Hottest 100, 2004), Fussy, Lock Up Your Daughters, Too Careful and more from the band’s hit-studded discography.

In what began as a side-project for members of The Sleepy Jackson, End Of Fashion came to dominate the Perth scene in the mid-aughts. The band gained national attention with 2006’s ARIA-Gold accredited self-titled debut album and hits like O Yeah, which charted at #8 in triple j’s Hottest 100 in 2005 and came in at #21 on the ARIA charts. Follow up singles The Game and She’s Love also debuted at #13 and #86 on the ARIA charts respectively.

End Of Fashion have numerous awards to their name, including WAM Awards (Best Rock Act, Best Male Vocalist, Most Popular Single/EP, Most Popular Music Video, Most Popular Album, Best Commercial Pop Act – 2006), ARIA Awards (Breakthrough Artist – Single, Best Video – 2005), an MTV Australia Video Music Award (Spankin’ New Aussie Artist – 2006) a WA Screen Award (Best Video – 2009) and an APRA Song of the Year Award (O Yeah – 2006).

Of the upcoming live shows, Burford says, “There’s so much going on and I’m so excited by everything. Mainly, I’m buzzed about getting these songs up on stage for people to hear, finally. It’s been a long time coming; some of these songs have been in my pocket for a handful of years now. The new tunes are working really well with the old stuff in the rehearsal room. Which is perfect, because my whole mission statement for this album has been to treat it like the spiritual successor to our first one. The sound of a band playing together. And I’ve got the band to pull it off now too. Everyone is seasoned and total pros. Nathan Sproule is killing it on drums and Jules (Dudman) is a Sleepy Jackson old boy like me!”
