IAN MOSS MATCHBOOK 30TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR NOVEMBER & DECEMBER 2019
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS MARK WILKINSON (ALL DATES) & LACHLAN EDWARDS (SYDNEY, MELBOURNE & NEWCASTLE ONLY)

1989. Bob Hawke is still Prime Minister, Canberra and Hawthorn are NRL and VFL Premiers, the Berlin Wall came down and Bart Simpson became a TV superstar. Tim Burton’s Batman was released, the 14th Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and it was the final months of the 1980s… It was also the year acclaimed Cold Chisel co-founder and guitarist Ian Moss stepped out front and centre, to release what would become a milestone Australian album – Matchbook.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of his iconic debut, Mossy and his four-piece band will hit the road in November and December 2019 for a national six-week run which will see the globally respected songwriter and legendary guitarist performing iconic tracks from Matchbook, plus more fan favourites. Covering Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane, Wollongong, Newcastle, Adelaide and Perth, tickets are on sale Monday 17 June via frontiertouring.com/ianmoss.

“Like my loyal fan base, Matchbook has been very good to me and it has allowed me to travel and play music that has been embraced by fans all over Australia and abroad. And for that, I am very grateful.” – Ian Moss.

Recorded at Rhinoceros Studios in Sydney and Oceanways Studios in Los Angeles with Chris Lord-Age and Ian Moss at the helm, Matchbook was the perfect bookend to a decade that saw music change and the era of MTV begin. Matchbook provided four iconic singles that would further establish Moss as one of the best songwriters of his generation: ‘Tucker’s Daughter’ (#2 on the ARIA Singles Chart & #6 in New Zealand), ‘Telephone Booth’, ‘Out Of The Fire’ and ‘Mr. Rain’.

The album was released on August 1, 1989 and peaked at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. It remained in the Top 10 for an amazing 14 weeks, shipping more than 200,000 copies in the first 12 months alone.

Six of the album’s 10 songs, including ‘Tucker’s Daughter’, were written by Cold Chisel bandmate Don Walker; two were co-written by Moss and Walker; and one co-written by Moss, Walker and Cold Chisel drummer, Steve Prestwich.

At the ARIA Music Awards in 1990, Matchbook won Album of the Year, Best Male Artist and Breakthrough Artist – Album. At the same ceremony Moss won Breakthrough Artist – Single and Song of the Year (shared with Don Walker) for ‘Tucker’s Daughter’, as well as being nominated for Single of the Year.

Any album that can pierce the barriers that lay between people from the city to the bush, from corporate office towers to shearing sheds in searing 40 degree heat, is unique.

Matchbook is one such album.

Joining Mossy on this tour is Sydney’s Mark Wilkinson, performing solo nationally. Mark’s latest album, Blue Eyed Girls, has seen the former busker sell over 70,000 discs to date, landing at #1 on Australia’s Independent Albums Chart. He’s already supported the likes of Brian Wilson, Peter Frampton and Seal – now it’s Mossy’s turn.

Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle audiences will enjoy special guest Lachlan Edwards. This young indie singer-songwriter from Newcastle can count Kasey Chambers as one of his fans, thanks to early singles which have been embraced by triple j, including ‘These Days’ and ‘Little Things’ (the latter earning the #1 spot on triple j Unearthed’s Roots Chart).

Join Ian Moss and his band this summer as they travel the country bringing one of Australia’s best-loved albums back to life. Don’t miss out!
