Bob Seger is a Michigan legend – and that legendary status spilled over across the border and into Ohio when Seger brought The Silver Bullet Band to Toledo’s Huntington Center on when is being billed as his Final Tour. After a fun opening set from Larkin Poe, the stage was quickly converted and readied for the man of the hour… or 2+ as it turned out. As soon as the lights dropped, the crowd’s energy exploded and we were off and running as Bob and his band ripped through 22 songs over the course of the evening, starting off with “The Highway” – a track from his latest release, 2017’s I Knew You When – which was performed live for the first time. From new material, Seger jumped back through his catalog and treated us to a killer live version of “Still The Same” and followed that up with a personal favorite that always seems to give the show an extra shot of adrenaline, “The Fire Down Below.” With so many hits to run through, the one two punch of “Mainstreet” followed by one of his arguably biggest hits “Old Time Rock & Roll” kept both the good times rolling and the SOLD OUT crowd on its feet. Forget everything you have heard about aging rockers losing their voice or stamina to put on a great show – Seger’s voice sounded great on the rockers and ballads and came across with as much energy and fun as the first time you heard the songs in tonight’s set. A high energy combo of “Come To Poppa” followed by another of my favorite tracks, “Her Strut.” There were songs that were omitted from tonight’s setlist that have been staples, but with a catalog as deep as Seger’s some tracks are bound to be missed… after all, the guy can’t play ALL night. More songs that cruised through the sound system and washed across the crowd brought together different albums and eras such as “Like a Rock,” “We’ve Got Tonight,” and “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man.” with the latter closing out the set before the first of two encores kicked off with “Against The Wind.” One of Seger’s most energetic tracks “Hollywood Nights” delivered all the excitement live as it does when you are cranking it out through your vehicles speakers and racing down the freeway (not sure you have done it, but I have had to pull my foot off the accelerator once or twice). When touring, Bob and Toledo seems to always wind up spending at least one evening together… he never forgets his fans there, they never forget him, and together they understand the true meaning behind the final song of the evening – “Rock and Roll Never Forgets.” With smiles and waves abound, Bob Seger said goodnight and see you later to Toledo as the band and crowd came together celebrating an icon and a ton of memories associated with each song. While this may be the Final Tour for Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, this is far from being the final set of memories created listening to the classic hits he has pumped out over the years.
