A Dirty Dozen with of BREAK MY FALL – December 2018

| 20 December 2018 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “Break My Fall is the kind of band you always hope to hear when you listen to new music, but rarely get. In a world where everything is homogenized and blurs the lines between what is original and new and what has been done before, Break My Fall elbows its way to the front of the crowded field with soaring vocals backed by a wall of guitars. They are a hard-hitting power rock band that delivers hook-laden, well-defined crunch, honed to near perfection. Break My Fall is Jared Bishop (Vocals), Jason Lynch (Drums), Matthew Gene (Bass), and Darren Wise (Guitar).” We get the guys to discuss new music, influences, and much more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

Darren: Some of the tracks were mixed by Sterling Winfield and have a lot of separation for clarity.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

Jason: What got us into music was seeing bands live and the way it made us feel.

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

Darren: Tool

4. Who would be your main five musical influences?

Jason: My main musical influences are Tool, Chris Cornell, Stone Sour, and Queens of the Stone Age.

5. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

Jared: It would be Jonathan Davis for his creativity.

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

Darren: Our music is a merge between rock and metal/sounding. It is like Three Days Grace.

7. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

Jared: The best thing is being able to display your inner and true self for all to see and hear.

8. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

Matt: Jared cooks, Matt and Jason make drinks, while Darren plays with his guitar.

9. When was the last time you were star struck and who was it?

Darren: The last time I was star struck it was Emmitt Smith.

10. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

Jared: When you have a dream, there is nothing else.

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”, even if it didn’t change your current situation?

Darren: Signing a bad record deal was definitely one of them.

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Jared: Alice in Chains – Dirt was the first record I bought and it was a time from adolescences to maturity for me.
