Upon A Burning Body stopped by The Concourse ahead of their upcoming tour, performing with several great local and regional bands. The show began with Purity Among Thieves, a metalcore band from Middle Tennessee that kicked off the energy. I was honestly blown away with their performance, thinking they could have played right before the headliner. Next was another Tennessee metalcore band called Nomad, which recently released a new single called “The Nomadic Defilement” in anticipation for this show. Wrapping up the Tennessee acts was the deathcore band I, Within, which features brutal vocals from frontman Spencer Yost and several rap-turned-metal covers. Needless to say, these bands opened the pit early for the main support, DEADBLO, an energetic and heavy force from the Atlanta metal scene.

Once Upon A Burning Body hit the stage, the pit became filled with swinging arms and even a real fight (which was quickly ended by security). I had not seen UABB since their tour with In This Moment in 2015, and I definitely saw growth in their stage presence and sound, which has a recognizable southern Texas flair. They played several songs from their most recent album Straight From The Barrio, like “B.M.F.” “‘Til The Break of Dawn,” “You Don’t Own Me,” and “Already Broken.” Older songs on the setlist included “Sin City,” “Intermission,” and the last song of the night, “Texas Blood Money.” At one point, frontman Danny Leal gave some recognition to the crowd, saying that it did not matter if there are ten or 10,000 people in the crowd, because they worked hard and spent money to buy a ticket. UABB definitely has a unique connection to their fans at their shows, which is evident in the energy that took over the room.
