Warhol A to Z does so much more than it says on the tin. Trawling through the life of the pop art icon, Alice Oehr’s evocative, childlike illustrations bring life to Steve Wilde’s fascinating biographical tidbits.
From Adman through to Zeitgeist, Wilde lays bare Warhol’s background, upbringing, talents, quirks and difficulties and difficultness, painting a complex tale of a talented man who changed the way we look at both advertising and art by blurring the lines between the two.
Andy’s entire life was a work of art; he made films about nothing, turned adverts into million-dollar artworks, subverted the course of popular culture and never for a moment ceased being his gloriously eccentric self.
Wilde brings all of this to life as well as exploring Warhol’s entourage, art, influence and legacy, making this a fittingly warts and all tribute to a legendary innovator.
