For some reason, Susie Wilkins has escaped my musical repertoire… until now. The latest release from this singer / songwriter / rocker is an EP with four songs that grab you and don’t let go. Disc opener and title track “She Got Me Good” is a blues-filled rocker that gets the foot tapping, the head banging, and you singing along on one of the catchiest choruses I have heard in a while. Listening to Wilkins croon and wail over the bridge is a fun listen that keeps you listening to the rest of the disc, just to see what is there. “To Be Afraid” slows the pace from the opening track, but dials up the intensity with emotionally charged lyrics that are perfectly paired to the musical accompaniment. The song builds from the opening to the close and shows off another side of Susie without deviating too far from the other tracks. “Fall To Pieces” is another track that demonstrates the raw talent of Wilkins as both a songwriter and singer. This is a nice combination of emotional lyrics being carried by emotional vocals, which are woven together with the music nicely, giving us a beautiful track that ties together different facets of Susie’s talent. Closer “Far Away” is a bit mellow compared to the other tracks, but doesn’t veer too far from the vibe of the rest of the disc. Listening to Wikins sing her heart out on this song reminds us how important a good lyric is behind the vocals, music, and energy. She delivers on all fronts across this disc (although I would LOVE to hear more tracks like the opener)… Welcome to my CD collection, Susie… we are all going to get along great!
