A QUICK DOZEN with JASON BUIE

With great new album Driftin’ Heart under his arm, Canadian blues axeman Jason Buie sat down and shared a Quick Dozen with us.

1. Tell us a little about your latest release. Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material that only diehard fans might pick up on?

We recorded in Vancouver & Nanaimo – I’m proud of all the songs. Seven of them are original, four are obscure covers.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realised you wanted to be a musician?

When I was in high school I would come home from school and practice from 4pm till after 10 everyday… around that time is when I realised this is what I want to do.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Jeff Healey

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

Bob Dylan

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

High energy Rockin’ Blues

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

Not having to get up at 7am everyday!

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

I’m the guy that initiates all these things.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

Driving a Bull Dozer.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep, or you would like to be able to “do over”?

Yes there where times when it all got to be too much of a party and we had to step back and re-adjust.

10. If you were made ruler of the world, what would your first orders be?

Food & Shelter for everyone & get rid of Trump.

11. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Exile on Main Street by The Rolling Stones – One of my all time fave records.

12. What, for you, is the meaning of life??

Love, Peace & Music!
