British indie rockers alt-J brought their unique sound to a sold out Old National Centre. Out on tour in support of Relaxer, the trio from Leeds has grown both in sound and appeal. Once performing in small clubs, they are now selling out major venues across the US. Tonight the theatre filled in early. Opening act Bishop Briggs got things started with her nonstop energetic set. A complex LED back panel and standing light bars set the stage for the main act. The pulsating lights created a trippy effect perfect for alt-J. They opened with the melodic love song “3WW” off their latest release. The fans were standing from first song to last. The energy in the theatre was amazing and made for really special show. The setlist stayed calming at first, and then gave way to their higher energy tunes beginning mid show with “In Cold Blood.” The lights synched to the music and were a great visual effect to support the music. The guys were all business with only a few short comments throughout the performance as they moved from song to song. The show culminated with a three-song encore that included perhaps their best-known songs “Left hand Free” and “Breezeblocks.” I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday night and by looks of the fans, I think everyone would agree.
Setlist: 3WW – Something Good – ❦ (Ripe & Ruin) – Tessellate – Deadcrush – Nara – In Cold Blood – Dissolve Me – Matilda – The Gospel of John Hurt – Bloodflood – Every Other Freckle – Taro – Adeline – Pleader – Fitzpleasure – Intro – Left Hand Free – Breezeblocks
