Even by 1987’s standards, this film’s cobbled-together, National Lampoon style of sketch comedy and frat boy humour was getting a little ho hum – and it’s really very dated now.

The premise is that we’re watching a C-grade sci fi movie – Amazon Women On The Moon. Mostly, we get to see advertisements and comedy sketches, along with the occasional pastiche scene from the imaginary film.

With segments directed by John Landis, Joe Dante, Carl Gottlieb, Peter Horton and Robert K Weiss, it’s late-night TV fare that doesn’t translate well to the big screen, probably directly with a video release in mind.

Some segments can still raise a laugh – Son Of The Invisible Man, with Ed Begley Jr, for instance, and you can also spot the young faces of Joe Pantoliano, Michele Pfeiffer, Sybil Danning, Rosanna Arquette, Steve Guttenberg, Bryan Cranston, Jenny Agutter, Andrew Dice Clay, as well as surprise cameos from Rip Taylor, Steve Allen, Carrie Fisher, Steve Cropper, Russ Meyer, Huey Lewis, Arsenio Hall and even B B King – but it’s all a little too try hard, with not enough depth to the comic ideas to have made them age well at all.
