I love when a publicist sends something new across my email. I get to discover something new and hopefully add to my likes. With the latest from Young Guns, my friend Michael has made it 2 for 2 on hits in my book. These self-proclaimed alt metal rockers are more of a streamlined rock band in my mind – they do what they do well.
“I Was Born, I Have Lived, I Will Surely Die” is a rocker to open the disc with, but it only gets better from there. I really dug the groove created by the next two tracks, “Dearly Departed” and title track “Bones.” These are rockers that keep you waiting to see what is next. The musicians here play well and use their instruments to compliment the vocals.
Another favorite of mine is “A Hymn For All I’ve Lost.” The track has a cool vibe that shows you another side of the band. After that is mood rocker “You Are Not.” This is another really good track. A couple more rockers appear in the form of “Brother In Arms” and “Headlights.” There is no lack of good rock tracks here to keep the foot tapping. I can even picture my morning runs to these tracks. The energy is sure to keep the blood flowing and the pace up.
Well done guys – if this is any indication, I cannot wait to see what you do on your next go round in the studio.
