CD REVIEW: KASABIAN – For Crying Out Loud

When Kasabian’s 2004 self-titled debut dropped, they presciently bridged the great divide between Oasis and electronic outfits such as The Prodigy, and foretold the new wave of dance rock, a la The Killers, Arctic Moneys et al.

Now, on album number 6, their sound is positively old school, finessed to a defining reference point, beloved of both dance and rock fans.

First single You’re In Love With A Psycho is case in point: perfectly pop rock n’ roll you can groove to or rock out to, and a chorus which instantly welds itself onto your brain.

The Party Never Ends’ washed out regret speaks of too many hangovers and too many bad decisions, and other offerings are more electronic (Twentyfourseven veers towards Prodigy territory, Are You Looking For Action is zappy disco ball pop, All Through The Night is a trance-like rave up that would have fit perfectly on the Trainspotting soundtrack), and everywhere the influence of Bowie is present, especially on the transcendent Sixteen Blocks.
