Revelation Perth International Film Festival crowdfunding campaign

Revelation Perth International Film Festival today launches a crowdfunding campaign that aims to raise $20,000 for the Festival’s 20th anniversary.

The campaign will go live at 7pm WST on the Indiegogo platform during Revelation’s monthly Australian Revelations screening and will run for 30 days. Funds raised will go towards supporting a multitude of events including key speakers and seminars, architectural projections, 16mm micro cinema and a fortnight of free family screenings.

Revelation commenced in 1997 in a basement backroom in Perth’s Greenwich Club with one person, two ancient 16mm projectors and 12 films. Today the event attracts over 13,000 patrons viewing over 120 international films presented at cinemas, galleries, cafes and bars across Perth.

Revelation Festival Director Richard Sowada said the event worked in such a hybridised and experimental way and, coupled with its ethical partnership stance, traditional funding has proved challenging.

“Our desire to provide as many free events as we can and to take a lead in creating something new means we need to explore other support and hence this campaign,” Richard said.

“It’s also gone from being ten days a year to effectively a year-round activity through video-on-demand, our monthly Australian Revelations screenings and our Fringe World program in summer.”

Highlights of lasts year’s festival were captured by local production company JAZAM Films and can be viewed here:

“Our 2016 highlight reel gives a great sense of the explosion of colour, sound, ideas and activity during Rev,” Richard said. “The collaborative spirit and open-mindedness with which we approach the festival always refreshing for audiences and invigorating for us: it’s such an honest and vibrant exchange.”

Supporters of the campaign have a wide range of rewards to choose from as thanks for their contribution including, merchandise and private screening opportunities.
