Failure Anthem from nearby North Carolina just released their debut album First World Problems and has hit the road in support. The group formed in 2013 and members include Chris Pierson (vocals), Ryan Nimmo (bass, backup vocals), Kile Odell (guitar), and Troy Surratt (drums). They worked nearly two years on the current album. After listening to First World Problems I was excited to see them live. The sound is upbeat, hard rock, with lyrics covering our tendencies to dwell on trivial problems and to inspire hope. The crowd was small but enthusiastic. The guys asked how many people had heard of their group, only about half of the audience acknowledged. After a few songs, I think the other half was converted. They pushed towards the stage and seemed to enjoy the show. Chris Pierson worked the stage and gave a great performance. Their song “Paralyzed” has gotten airtime on the Octane station of satellite radio and seemed to be the most recognized song of the night. They played a short set tonight as they were co-headliners with Through the Fire who performed the last slot of the night. Their music certainly warrants checking out and First World Problems is a solid first release!
