Lost Dawn have a fuzzbox and they’re not afraid to use it, dirtying up their garage pop rock with a White Stripesey edge and some exotic other-worldly elements to make a tripped out near-psych rock album of unusual individuality.

The White Stripes-isms are strongest on Wasting My Time, whilst Manchild has a hypnotic middle section full of pulsating Eastern rhythms. Darkest Night is breathily dreamy and full of an almost claustrophobic atmosphere, contrasting Count On Me’s groovy Bolanesque bounce and the sweetly syrupy but edgy female vocals of Tesa Parkes, which counterpoint frontman Stanley Duke’s fuzzed-out sneering drawl perfectly.

Lost Dawn’s debut marks them as one to watch, even if some of the material herein feels half-baked. They have the sound they need to stand out, but the songs need some work.
