Rob Hunter reimagines Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale of a boy raised in the jungle by beasts in this hard cover version, just in time for the new CGI-laden movie to hit the cinemas.
Hunter’s Mowgli is a more headstrong teenager than the movie version, though no less compassionate and caring a hero, and of course we still meet much-beloved or feared characters such as Bagheera the black panther, Baloo the bear, Kaa the enormous python and the monstrous tiger Shere Khan.
Hunter’s version of the story is less fantastical than the movie versions – not that it’s a bad thing taking it a step back towards Kipling’s original vision – but the moral of the story remains the same, and this is a delightful book that sheds a slightly different light on a wonderful story.
