The Guitar Wizard of Oz TOMMY EMMANUEL announces regional WA shows for August
“One of the greatest players on the planet” – Chet Atkins
“The best (guitar player) I’ve ever seen” – Eric Clapton
Australian guitar icon Tommy Emmanuel will return to his home country for five theatre shows this August, taking in three shows in regional WA (a market he hasn’t visited in almost a decade), Nowra in NSW and the nation’s capital, Canberra, promoters Rob Potts and Jeff Lewis confirmed today.
The two-time Grammy-nominee, known to his legions of die-hard fans and the general public alike as arguably the world’s greatest acoustic guitar player, will perform in the mode audiences love best – solo. His incredible charisma, stunning speed and dexterity and unerring command of melody will all be on display. Tommy performs the entire show solo, with an interval. This is Tommy Emmanuel at his remarkable best – one man, one guitar – one unforgettable experience!
“Tommy’s always been committed to bringing his incredible show to his fans far and wide, and we’re thrilled that we could find the window to bring him to regional Australia in his most sought-after mode – live, solo and acoustic. Tommy Emmanuel solo can often seem like a full rock’n’roll band” said promoter Rob Potts.
“Hearing Tommy play is amazing, but seeing him live is like nothing else on earth” promoter Jeff Lewis added.
“When people watch me play, I hope they feel that they’re watching someone who’s doing what they’re meant to do. It’s like a calling, and I’ve always known that when I played, something good happened to the people who have heard it. I can’t wait to get back to some of the towns I started my touring career in and play for old friends and new fans,” said Tommy.
Tickets are sure to sell fast as Aussie fans race to secure their chance to see one of the world’s most in demand musicians on an increasingly rare trip to his home country. His trips down under are set to become less and less frequent, as Tommy’s already massive international fan-base continues to grow, requiring him to tour a vast number of countries around the world.
In a career that has spanned over five decades, Tommy Emmanuel has become one of the most respected and acclaimed musicians on the planet. One of a select few designated “Certified Guitar Player” (CGP) by iconic guitarist Chet Atkins, Tommy has received an incredible variety of accolades, including two Grammy Award nominations, two Golden Guitar awards and being twice voted Best Acoustic Guitarist by US Guitar Player Magazine. In 2010, he added AM to his name after CGP, when he was appointed a Member of Order of Australia for services to music.
