Venue: DTE Energy Music Theatre

City: Clarkston, MI

Date: October 15, 2021

Review and Photographs by: Todd “Toddstar” Jolicoeur (www.toddstarphotography.com)

KISS finally satisfied all of their fans in the Detroit market when they hit the stage at Pine Knob… I mean DTE Energy Music Theatre after a couple times of having to reschedule the show, originally due to COVID shutdowns, but most recently after Paul and Gene both battled the virus after a local date in nearby Toledo.  If you have seen KISS you get it and you usually come back time and time again, as I have.  This show was almost identical to the recent show show of the Michigan border, with a couple shifts in the ordering of the setlist, but keeping the song selection identical.  The foursome hit the stage and brought down the house on what was the final show at the venue for the season.  While the weather was cold and drizzly most of the day, KISS and the show were hotter than hell and exactly what the doctor ordered.  The pyro, bombastic explosions, and the overall vibe of the show were enough to please any KISS fan, but the smiles and interaction between the stage and the audience was sheer perfection.  It’s hard to discuss a try and convey in writing what you see at a KISS show, but trust me – the latest tour and incarnation of their live show is one of the best I have seen in the 42 years I have been attending KISS shows.  Don’t short change the band as musicians and performers; the set is carefully curated, as is the placement of the solo opportunities each band member has through the course of the show.  With dates dwindling as the band readies itself for the annual KISS Kruise, you may need to grab tickets and hit one of the Las Vegas residency dates coming up in December and January.

Setlist: Detroit Rock City – Shout It Out Loud – Deuce – War Machine – Heaven’s on Fire – I Love It Loud – Say Yeah – Cold Gin – Lick It Up – Calling Dr. Love – Tears Are Falling – Psycho Circus / 100,000 Years – God of Thunder – Love Gun – I Was Made for Lovin’ You – Black Diamond – Beth – Do You Love Me – Rock and Roll All Nite
