In general, I am not crazy about the record company made collaborations, but wow, Frontiers Records hit a home run with this one. Nordic Union consists of Pretty Maids’ singer Ronnie Atkins and Erik Martensson of Eclipse and W.E.T., who recorded all of the guitars, including bass guitars. Rounding out the lineup is Magnus Ulfstedt on drums.
This album may very well end up being my favorite album of the year. It is a perfect melodic hard rock album, absolutely loaded with sweet riffs, delicious hooks, and great song writing. Erik Martensson’s guitar solos are fantastic as well, and production is top notch. Every song is extremely catchy, and perfectly mixed. There isn’t any filler on this album, as it rocks start to finish. I can’t even pick out a favorite song, as then entire album is just so solid. “The War Has Begun” opens the album and just when you think that they probably put the best track first, you are listening to the ultra catchy “Hypocrisy.” From the slower “Every Heartbeat” to the non-stop rocking “When Death is Calling” and “21 Guns,” this album is a pure ear candy. If you are a fan of either Pretty Maids or Eclipse, there is no reason you shouldn’t love this album, as this album really combines the best of both bands into one package.
