Based on investigations into Nirvana leader Kurt Cobain’s death made by Private Investigator Tom Grant in April 1994, Soaked In Bleach is a mixture of documentary and recreation footage featuring the PI himself and other key players in the case, and starring Tyler Bryan as Cobain.
Initially hired by Cobain’s wife Courtney Love (played here by Sarah Scott) to find him a few days before the discovery of his body (she was on tour with her band Hole in England at the time), Grant reached some shocking and sensationalist conclusions that his client was not impressed by.
The real Grant tells the story from the beginning: when Love first called his office, and his suspicions of her motives (not to mention lack of sobriety), and Statler and he discredit just about every aspect of the Seattle Police Department’s handling of the death investigation – enough to put doubt into the mind of even a sceptic like this reviewer.
There’s none of Nirvana’s music herein – of course, what with Love controlling the rights to Cobain’s songs, but Soaked In Bleach certainly gives us much to think about.
