Featuring power pop legends Richard Lane (The Stems, on guitar & keyboards), Clyde Bramley (The Hoodoo Gurus, bass), Glenn Morris (The Screaming Tribesmen, vocals & guitar) and rounded out with Glenn’s brother Brian on drums, and guitarist Jon Roberts (ex-Barbarellas), there’s little surprise that The On And Ons’ Calling brings to mind all of those great bands and a veritable litany of their influences.

Brace yourself for super-sweetly melodic love songs to girls, rock and roll, and good times, ultra-catchy riffs that would make Cheap Trick or the aforementioned Gurus and Stems proud, and an album that is over far too soon.

All Over Heavenly (You’re My Everything) opens the album with a very Stems shade of bliss, before Goodbye My Love takes the reigns, Big Star-style and Long Ride could be the sons (or grandsons) of the Beach Boys.

Elsewhere Rockin’ With the Beat is pure sixties pop, Don’t Tear Me Down is a blast of Who-like magic, Stupid Girl is popped-out garage rock with a cheeky nod pointing to their tongue-in-cheekiness, before Hard To Say Goodbye closes the album in excellent style with layered harmonies like a chorus of glammed-up angels.
