A little pop-punky and a little indie – think early Jebediah or Jimmy Eat World – Dan Cribb & The Isolated have delivered a very enjoyable debut album full of spunk and melody.
After leaving punk band The Decline, Cribb released the largely acoustic The Memories Last EP, seemingly going for a more singer/songwriter, acoustic troubadour vibe.
On As We Drift Apart he and his band find the middle ground between the two camps: the songs sound like they were written softly and then beefed up by the band – and it works a treat, with hooks aplenty to catch the listener and draw them in.
Cribb’s vocals are completely engaging: he has a way of singing as if he’s talking to you with melody, for want of a better description. It’s another hook – and another nod to fellow West Aussies Jebediah.
Let’s Move To New York, The Only One and Fall Apart are highlights in a rock solid set, and with the band now adopting a stance not far from classic Blink 182, Alkaline Trio, or the aforementioned Jebs, there’s little stopping Dan Cribb from building a strong following
