Half My Facebook Friends Are Ferrets book cover

In the tradition of Adrian Mole, or Diary of a Wimpy Kid, comes this diarised story of fifteen year old Josh Walker – or ‘Josh The Destroyer’ as he fancies himself.

Josh has set himself a short list of ‘must do’s’ to achieve before his impending sixteenth birthday, including kiss a girl (who is not a relative, very old, very young, or covered in fur), own the coveted flying V guitar in the local music shop window, master playing One by Metallica, meet Children Of Bodom and get something pierced or tattooed. Not much to ask, you might think – but it’s a bit scary hearing it come from a fifteen year old!

The six months covered in Josh’s diaries see him learning a lot about life, and even growing up a little. There’s bubbles to burst, strength to discover, and it’s a good, enjoyable Young Adult read with a nice heavy metal edge, and whilst some of it seemed cheesy to me, I’m somewhat out of the target demographic, which I would suggest is 13 to 17.
