Wolfe Brothers - Nothin' But Trouble cover

The backstory is that this Tasmanian four-piece are comprised of two Wolfe Brothers – singer/guitarist Nick and Bassist Tom – and their good buddies Brodie Rainbird on guitar and Casey Kostiuk on the drums.

Eschewing the more traditional Aussie pub rock route, they ply their trade with a country-rock hybrid that errs on the lite side – though their rock cred cannot be dissed when the likes of the legendary Angry Anderson (who recently went on an Eastern States tour with them) give them the nod of approval.

Think Kid Rock or Bret Michaels, but less rock and more Aussie. Special Kind Of Crazy even sounds like Nickelback-lite.

It’s all enjoyable, inoffensive, and occasionally quite good (the title track, The Line), but tracks like Whiskey Tastes Like Water and Red Dress are simply too clichéd – we’ve heard this before too many times.

And the production is great throughout, and The Wolfe Brothers are undoubtedly talented and we suspect they’d go down a treat in The States. The only thing lacking, really, is a kick in the guts.
