Moon Taxi rode into Knoxville ready to play their first gig of 2015 to a sold out crowd at the Bijou Theater. The indie rock band hails from nearby Nashville, TN. The quintet of Trevor Terndrup (vocals, guitar), Tommy Putnam (bass), Spencer Thomson (guitar), Tyler Ritter (drums), and Wes Bailey (keys) was founded in 2006 while attending Belmont College. They have released 3 studio albums; the latest Mountains Beaches Cities was released in 2013.
The opening act, The Lonely Biscuits, sparked off the night as the seats steadily filled. By set change, the theatre was packed. As the lights dimmed, the entire crowd was on their feet. A wave of fans left their seats and pushed forward to stage. As the colorful lights lit up the historic theater, Moon Taxi charged out to a raucous roar. They played all of their well-known studio work, highlighted with extended jams making the live show a unique experience. Their energy was astounding and continued all night. The crowd was equally engaged, on their feet and singing in unison throughout the show. Trevor announced that 2015 is going to be a huge year for them, with a new studio release and a return to Bonnaroo Music Festival this summer. The crowd went wild. The guys played 3 new songs that are yet to be released. After a 2 full hours, they went off stage. “One more song” was the chant until Trevor came back to perform a cover of Mad World solo. The band returned for 2 more songs, their top hits Running Wild and Mercury, before calling it a night. Moon Taxi put on an amazing show and we will certainly be looking forward to hearing more from them in the near future.
