It’d be all too easy to write The Lazys off as yet another in a long line of AC/DC-Airbourne copyists, but they manage to just avoid such an ignomious fate by virtue of a damn fine clutch of rock n’ roll songs on this debut album.
Shake It Like You Really Mean It, All Fired Up and Punk Come N’ Get Me are all tailor made fist-pumping, tonsil-shredding stadium anthems that can only be better live, and on Let You Down and Love Sick Boy they show they can slow down the pace and engage completely out of the ‘hard rock boogie’ box that they try to paint themselves into elsewhere.
Anxiety finishes the album with a staccato blast of nastiness before a not-very-well hidden – and ever so slightly cheeky – track, Big Heart On (My Sleeve) takes us back to well paced Airbourne territory.
In short, The Lazys is a solid album that puts the band firmly into the ‘ones to watch’ category, and album #2 should be very interesting as their own style evolves further.
