Diarrhea Planet roared into Knoxville straight off their November 18th EP release Aliens in the Outfield. The six-member group, formed in 2009, hails from nearby Nashville. They feature four guitarists (yes four), a bass player and drummer. Often compared to likes of the Ramones, DP is punk infused with tons of metal. What they lack in chorus is masked by the onslaught of guitar riffs. From the opening song to the last, the crowd was insane. The limited security staff more than earned their money trying to keep things in check. From crowd surfing, beer throwing, and slam dancing, The Concourse became a giant mosh pit. Singer Jordan Smith even asked the crowd to be respectful of the security team. As for their performance, Diarrhea Planet is every bit as energetic as the crowd. Their frenetic guitars, jumping around on stage, and reaching out into the crowd, maintained the frenzy throughout the show. They only paused momentarily to wish drummer Casey Weissbuch a happy birthday. They played songs from their two studio albums, latest EP, and even did a cover of Third Eye Blind’s “I Want Something Else”. There was no catching your breath during the Diarrhea Planet concert; they and the crowd went nonstop the entire set. Simply listening to their music does not prepare you for the concert. This is clearly a band best enjoyed live!
