AMERICA TO TOUR AUSTRALIA IN CELEBRATION OF 45th ANNIVERSARY WITH SPECIAL GUEST SHARON CORR
It has been forty-five years since their debut on the music scene and now classic rock favourites America will return to tour Australia in May 2015, playing their greatest hits collection for their multitude of loyal fans with tickets going on sale from Monday 24th November 2014.
With their timeless sound, uplifting music and positive messages, the duo will bring their show to Red Hill Auditorium in Perth, Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide, Palais Theatre in Melbourne, State Theatre in Sydney and Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast.
Supporting America on their Australian visit is Grammy nominee and Brit Award Winner, singer/songwriter Sharon Corr from the hugely successful Irish group The Corrs. Now a solo artist, Sharon has released two albums ‘Dream Of You’ and ‘The Same Sun’. The Celtic pop-rock star has sold over 45 million albums worldwide with her band and continues to travel the globe with her violin performing her moving lyrics to fans.
Founded in the 1960s, America quickly found success with a string of #1 and top ten hits, earning a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1972 and six certified gold and platinum albums throughout their career.
From their signature song ‘A Horse With No Name’ to other hits such as ‘I Need You’, ‘Ventura Highway’ and ‘Don’t Cross The River Man’, America is set to thrill their Australian fans, taking them on a musical journey through the decades.
“We cannot wait to return Australia! Our fans in Australia have always been so supportive of the band; it will be a thrill to play for them again. There’s nothing like seeing thousands of fans singing along to the hits we created,” says founding member Gerry Beckley.
“Australia is one of our favourite places to visit so it is very exciting to return. I hope our Aussie fans are ready to have some fun – this tour is for them!” says Dewey Bunnell, founding member of America.
Since they first made their mark on the charts, America’s audiences have continued to expand, with fans all over the world, even forty-five years down the track. This popularity is a testament to the band’s charm. With their folk jazz and rock sound, their songs transcend the years and the band remains at the forefront of music fans’ minds.
America began when Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell (and former band mate Dan Peek) met at high school in London in the late 1960s. The trio found success with their first #1 single ‘A Horse With No Name’, becoming a household name. With a catalog of hits and accolades to follow, the mid 70s saw Peek depart the band with Beckley and Bunnell carrying on as a duo. With a shift in sound and direction, America continued to reach the top of the pop charts in the 1980s and saw the band embrace this change successfully, their music continuing to resonate across the world.
