Shane’s Rock Challenge: THE STRAY CATS – Rumble In Brixton

Stray Cats - Rumble In Brixton cover

Recorded, obviously enough, in Brixton on one of their early 2000’s reunion tours, Rumble In Brixton catches Messers Setzer, Rocker & Phantom in fine form as they bounce and roll through 21 of their favourite tracks and covers.

Setzer’s guitar twangs and wah-wah’s as he croons his way through Gene Vincent, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran and their own tracks including Stray Cat Strut, Too Hip Gotta Go, Runaway Boys, Rock This Town and (She’s) Sexy & 17.

The sheer energy and enthusiasm they bring to these relatively simple rockabilly tunes shows hands down why The Stray Cats were such a big deal in the first place.

With all three original members on board, there’s no stand-ins, padding of the sound or dilution of their abilities in evidence, and RIB captures all the vavoom and shebang of a Stray cats show, even throwing in the then-new studio track Mystery Train Kept A-Rollin’.
