Looking like they’ve scored a great deal on some Black Veil Brides cast offs, Crosson bill themselves as ‘theatrical rock warriors’, and whilst there is some style to their 80’s rock regurgitation, all too often this EP is lacking oomph and leaning too heavily towards a Rock Of Ages cabaret interpretation of hair metal.

If you can overlook the fact that the female backing vocals are higher in the mix than the guitars; there’s a very 80’s KISS sound to some of the songs; and singer Jason Crosson bewilderingly tackles each song as if he’s Vince Neil one minute, David Bowie the next, and Johnny Rotten a moment later, then you’ll probably dig Crosson, because they’re doing what they do pretty damn well.

Perhaps I’m being a little hard on them, as my foot was tapping and head nodding throughout Spreading…. Perhaps my head is telling me that Crosson are too contrived, but my heart is bopping along? Let’s not write them off just yet.
