Shane’s Music Challenge: MORDRED – Fool’s Game
5/10

Mordred - Fool's Game cover

At the time Mordred were pretty out there, blending the relatively new genre of thrash metal with funk and some hip hop elements, though in hindsight most of this sounds pretty standard and sub-Anthrax nowadays.

Track 3’s scratchy funk spawned a reasonably popular single for them in Every Day’s A Holiday, which undoubtedly influenced future rap-rock and nu-metal acts – which makes the song sound a lot worse than it is! It’s a cool song, though with a memorable riff, melody, lyric and production.

It’s the only real standout track here, so maybe had they taken that angle a little more strongly with more of the material Fool’s Game would have made more of an impression.
