CHEETAH – 1982 – Rock & Roll Women

Cheetah - Rock & Roll Women cover

“I love Australians,” says The Guv, played by Al Murray in British sitcom Time Gentlemen Please, and proceeds to explain how we don’t mince words – just call a spade a spade.

‘For instance,’ he might say had he known about this 1982 cult gem, ‘there’s two hot women playing rock n’ roll. I know, let’s call the record Rock & Roll Women.’

Being 1982 it’s also pre- the term cougar, so maybe Cheetah is an entirely appropriate precursor to that, given sisters Chrissy and Lindsay Hammond’s good looks.

Produced by the legendary Vanda & Young team, this record is full of rockers with the Hammond sister’s luscious and raunchy vocals and the team successfully marries crunchy, punchy riffs with strong melodies.

I’ve only ever seen this on vinyl or cassette but Mr & Mrs Google swear it’s out there on CD somewhere!

Best bits: The hit single Spend The Night is the best on offer, though the whole album is worthy of it’s cult status.

6.5/10
