(Los Angeles, CA – July 17th, 2013) – THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS have been nominated for three 2013 VMA Awards for the short film for their single “Up In The Air,” making them the most nominated rock band this year.  The video directed by long-time collaborator Bartholomew Cubbins will compete for Best Rock Video, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, airing live on MTV on August 25th.   “Up In The Air” is the first single from the band’s fourth studio album LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS (Virgin Records) which was released on May 21st, 2013 and debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200 Chart.

“Four days, a million square footage, 100 hours of material, Damien Hirst, Dita Von Teese, Neil Strauss, US Olympic female gymnasts, a couple of supermodels, a lion, a wolf, a snake, some bees, and a zebra…oh, and Thirty Seconds to Mars. So proud to have all the hard work, fun, and dreams acknowledged by such a legendary awards show,” said Jared Leto.

The epic short film premiered in April and is nearing 10 million views.  It stars a colorful array of characters, all of who take the viewer on an hallucinogenic journey through an incredibly surreal landscape.  View video here: http://smarturl.it/UITA

No strangers to the VMA awards, THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS have been nominated and won previous awards in the past.  In 2011, they were the most nominated rock band with 3 nominations for the controversial short film for single “Hurricane” from 2009’s album This Is War.  In 2010, they were nominated for 4 awards including Video Of The Year and won Best Rock Video for their video for single “Kings & Queens” entitled “The Ride.”  In 2006, they won their first VMA Award when the video for “The Kill” picked up the MTV2 Award and it was also nominated for Best Rock Video.

“Up In The Air” was played for the very first time in space aboard the SpaceX cargo mission to the International Space Station, where it was given a ground-breaking premiere by the astronauts.  It quickly hit the airwaves on earth and became another top 5 modern rock smash.   The band’s next single “City Of Angels” impacts radio on July 29th and has already received early play from KROQ in Los Angeles, 89X in Detroit, WRZX in Indianapolis and KRZQ in Reno.

Earlier this week it was announced that THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS will play at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Festival, happening Sept 21st and 22nd in Las Vegas, NV.  They will then kick off their first North American tour in support of LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS on Sept 27th in Atlanta, GA.  Tickets are on-sale now for the tour which runs through Oct. 12th when THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS will play what’s sure to be a historic homecoming show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (full routing below).  Fans can purchase VIP tickets that include a meet and greet with the band and side of stage access during their performance at AdventuresInWonderland.com.  THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS is currently touring in Europe where they are playing arenas and festivals throughout the region including Rock am Ring, Download Festival, Rock Werchter and will headline the iTunes Festival in London on Sep. 18th before returning stateside.
