LOS ANGELES, CA – JULY 29, 2013 – This fall, in a collaborative performance, Fiona Apple andBlake Mills will embark on a 12 date, North American tour. Tickets for “Anything We Want: An Evening With Fiona Apple & Blake Mills” will go on sale beginning this Friday, August 2. While the dates for the run have already been finalized, the show itself is still in development. However, the artists were persuaded to share a few details:

  1. We were sent an assignment to write three or four sentences.
  2. These sentences should communicate that we, Fiona Apple & Blake Mills (that’s us), are doing a little tour as a duo.
  3. We know it’ll be something special, and we aren’t being coy here — it’s just that we have about 13% of an idea of what the fuck we will be playing for you.
  4. It was our understanding that the 4th sentence was optional, but here is something that is true: the uncertainty excites us.

Featuring songs from their respective catalogues as well as some original yet to be released material, the duo will be performing in many of North America’s preeminent venues including Seattle’s Benaroya Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley and the Beacon Theatre in New York City For a full itinerary, on-sale dates and periodic progress reports visit www.anythingwewant.us

Fiona Apple made her debut at age 19 with 1996’s Tidal, which is certified triple Platinum and includes the GRAMMY®-winning single “Criminal.”  1999’s When the Pawn… was hailed by Entertainment Weekly as “the work of an original” and 2005’s Extraordinary Machine was named the top album of the year by The New York Times. Her latest release, The Idler Wheel, entered the Billboard 200 at No. 3, becoming the Epic Records recording artist’s highest-charting album yet. SPIN pronounced “Every Single Night,” the album’s first single, “a revelation,” Rolling Stone named “Hot Knife” one of the “50 Best Songs of 2012” and Pitchfork named The Idler Wheel… one of the “5 best records of 2012.” The video for “Hot Knife,” directed by filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, can be seen at https://vimeo.com/70949607.

Blake Mills has one of the most diverse careers in music today. As a collaborator with Fiona Apple, Mills served as both opening act and guitarist throughout The Idler Wheel… tour. He released his first solo album, the self-produced Break Mirrors, to much acclaim, following his tenure with his first group, the esteemed Simon Dawes (now well known simply as Dawes). Recognized as one of the industry’s most creative and in demand musicians, Mills has worked with a wide array of artists, from Julian Casablancas, Lucinda Williams, and Jackson Browne to Band of Horses and Cass McCombs; as a producer he’s helmed sessions for Conor Oberst, Billy Gibbons, Sara Watkins, Sky Ferreira and Jesca Hoop. Currently, Mills is readying his second record, a still untitled full-length album set for release in early 2014 on Verve Records/Record Collection.
